Afterward, emailing to discuss fabrics and receive photos was also fun.

But of course your true genius revealed itself when my husband and I started our family ahead of schedule, and Plan A had to give way to Plan B three months before the wedding. Brides, if you happen to be blessed before the ceremony, Loyce is the dressmaker for you! Battling morning sickness, I called her on a Wednesday and by the following week she had a model of the dress I ended up wearing all sewn together and approved by her mother Sara, an authority on matters of good taste. While not as sleek, the second dress may have been even prettier than the first, with its outer layers of silk chiffon from the bust down. Loyce made it that much more special by removing lace from my mother’s wedding gown and adding it to the hemline of mine, so that it peeked out to celebrate continuing generations of women in my family. Because my final fitting was just two days before the wedding, Loyce was able to monitor my belly growth and make sure the dress fit perfectly.

Even so, no one suspected it was a maternity dress, and several people said it was the most beautiful bridal dress they had ever seen.
